Textures Project

This is the work from my first A level project: textures

Artist study of Jenny Saville.

These mixed media mushroom sculptures were made from various materials, velvet, cardboard, sponge and hot glue for the raindrops.

Charcoal and Oil Pastel study, layered over each other with plasticine.

An A3 study of seashells in chalk and charcoal.

A 3D mixed media study of an eyeball, using felt, plastic, wire and chalk.

Some biro sketches depicting close ups of the skin.

Drypoint experiments, different colours of ink and coloured in versions.

Final Piece

This piece got shortlisted in the Dorset Art Prize in December 2023!

This painting of my dad was done on several layers of plasticine. With each layer, I built up the face with the end of the nose being the final layer. It's essentially a 3D piece that studies the layers of the face. From different angles you can see the depth of the piece and how it builds up.

<---- The base layer of the piece. Here I painted loosely, not worrying about details as this layer served to ensure there would be no gaps in the painting, and so I would know roughly where each feature needed to go

Here was how I planned out each layer of the face, starting with a base layer and the furthest parts of the face, and ending with the closest part: the tip of the nose. When the layers are combined they build up the components of the face together.
